"Rav, how do you always have a girl?"
I have a two week school break coming up, and with all the talk about the coronavirus outbreak hitting the US, I figure it's probably not the best time to get on a plane and jet off somewhere far away.
Instead, I booked myself a weeklong stay at a New England retreat center. I'll have a private room and bath, three delicious meals a day, access to hundreds of acres of beautiful woods, and all sorts of wellness activities, including yoga and meditation. I'll also see a practitioner about aligning my body so that I no longer have to fear sciatica in the future. I'm about 90% recovered from that, to the point where I no longer take painkillers 8 -9 times a day.
I went to see colleague who had been to the retreat center, and he commiserated with all that happened to me that past year.
"Do you have adequate supports, Rav?" he asked. Well, yes, I have my adult children, my close friends, my congregation.
"And is there a woman, maybe a girlfriend in your life?"
"Oh, yes there is...."
At which he smiles: "I don't know how you do it, Rav, but you always have a girl!"
Which I always do....
