Day 174

ALL the Disinfectant

Lately most of my workday has consisted of me spraying/wiping everything in sight with disinfectant every hour. The whole process takes about 15-20 minutes, so you can understand why (doing this every hour) I haven't been able to get much else done. Counters, appliances, every single door handle, drawer handle, and cabinet. Every keyboard, mouse, printer, desk phone, and even the arms of each chair. Of course, my coworkers get annoyed that they are interrupted, but I'm doing what I've been told. Most of it I understand, but then it gets irrational: I have to wipe every stapler, letter opener, and spray every bunch of writing utensils. The fumes are killing my head. We each have our own bottle of hand-sanitizer plus extras in our common areas. At one point I was chastised because I wasn't "cleaning often enough." Maybe I should just buy a Hazmat suit and walk around spraying all my coworkers with Lysol...

The accounting department has been told they can work remotely from home, and I am jealous.

Last I checked there were 12 confirmed cases in our city, and since I work in the heart of it, shit is hitting the fan here.

I feel for you, Otter: I actually started to pitch in at school today - whenever I walked around the building, I would grab a Clorox wipe and sanitize handrails, doorknobs, etc. We all gotta pitch in, right?

Agreed, Rav. None of my coworkers have pitched in yet, and I've had to remind a couple of them to cough into their elbows and not into the open air. One of our employees has a toddler with half of a heart, so I remind them to cover their coughs so no germs go home with the employee to the little one. I spritzed another coworker with Lysol while I was cleaning because he was washing his hands every 30 minutes (which is great!) and using like 7 paper towels to dry his hands with each time (not so great!). He didn't realize there was a paper towel shortage everywhere. We don't realize just how wasteful we are until we can't readily get the simple items we're used to.
