Day 438

Endless ghosting....

I was listening to the radio today, and near the end of the program, a writer from my hometown was being interviewed. She had penned an essay about how to get through the holidays as a single woman, which included answering all your well-meaning family and friends' questions about your life. "Are you happy being single?" "Why haven't you met anybody yet?" "How is dating going?"

Well, this writer had a very snarky comment on dating, in which she explains to her sister that the experience is just about being "ghosted" over and over again by different men. Since her sister has been married for the past ten years, she doesn't know that ghosting is the practice of going out on dates, and then never hearing from the person again. This can be one date or 50 dates. You also get men who don't write in spite of being matched on Tinder, or who turn out to be in "open" relationships with their "real" partners.

Suffice it to say, dating seem to suck whether you are a man or woman. It doesn't have to suck that badly, though, if you set your expectations low enough. Although there's no telling how low.

Been there. Grown-ass men will just disappear like a cowardly 15-year-old rather than face being honest with a woman. Dating sucks.

and I've been on the receiving end of it as well: mature women ghost me all the time - I take them out, we have a nice time, I text and say I had a nice time, and then they never write back. I've heard from friends that it's their way of not insinuating any "hope" that the man may read into their response and maybe there are men like this. But I think it's just chickenshit....

It’s total chickenshit. I would far prefer to have a man just say “look, you’re cool but I don’t think we click” than just vanish. The disappearance leaves me wondering what is so offensive about me that I’m not worth the courtesy of honesty.
