Day 3

Explain god to me please

When something horrible happens why do people gush and thank god for recovery from the horrible event? Where the hell was god when the horrible event happened? It doesn’t make any sense to me at all. That’s like if someone shoves you to the ground and then you go around telling everyone how wonderful they are because they helped you get back up.

Is your title a real invitation to a dialogue or just a summary of your exasperation at the illogicality of people's attitudes?

It’s a real invitation. I genuinely don’t understand how people can believe in an all powerful god who allows horrible things to happen to people and then thank him for them getting through it. It makes no sense to me. If someone could explain it I would be greatful.

It's a force of habit - I am a complete atheist: I have studied the matter closely, and have concluded there is, in fact, no such thing as this supreme, all-knowing, all powerful deity, and that it is a human construct that serves an evolutionary purpose. But for some reason, I still say "God bless you!" after someone sneezes.....

I’m the same way... and I got called out yesterday for using the phrase “thank god for ...” when I don’t believe.
