Day 94

How Toxic are your relatives?

I grew up in a toxic family. Most relatives are ignorant drunks; some even flirt with extended relatives. One Christmas Holiday years ago, my ex-wife and I visited family in the Bay Area at an Uncle's house. The entire extended family is sitting down after dinner; some of us on the living room floor sitting Indian-style with our legs crossed. My ex-wife and I had just flew in from Seattle hours before. Within minutes after dinner, while sitting with my ex-wife to my right side my Aunt decides to grab my crouch. My ex-wife jumps to a standing position in complete disapproval of this gross act. My mother sitting right next to her jumps up to standing position and tells my ex-wife she's a ####### bitch and slaps her in the head so hard she falls to the floor almost hitting the corner of a piece of furniture. My ex-wife and I immediately packed up for the airport and returned home that night.

Yeah, I don't disagree. The saddest part of it all is that I've been confused all my life. How could I possibly be from the same parents? My brother is an idiot. I love my sister more than anyone, but she's no genius either. I grew up with what I thought a normal family. Turns out Dad is a total mean drunk, and Mom is a gullible religious freak. Btw, years later, my mother to this day says she does NOT remember my Aunt grabbing my crouch. And, she barely remembers slapping my ex-wife. That event was more traumatic than Desert Storm for me. My family has literally driven me insane with their ignorance. I never speak to them. I struggle to complete a 10-minute conversation on Mother's & Father's Day to falsely give them the impression that I care. I honestly think once they've passed, I may actually love life again.
