Day 684

I love the dark hours of my being....

I was walking in "my woods," which is on the southern side of Brooklyn's gem, Prospect Park. I was in pain most of the way, and it got me to thinking about all the pain I have endured in my life; yet, here I am, it's a beautiful, mild day and the woods are lovely and lonely. I see hardly a soul as I follow the path that takes me by the edge of the lake, past the deep trees.....

I get to thinking about how much I miss the folks at the hospital where I had my radiation treatments for the cancer, 44 in all. I think about how early in the morning they had to get up to come to work, the long hours they put in and the lives they save.

And I thought: I have to give back. I went home and filled out a form to volunteer at the hospital, working with kids and families. Since I have Mondays and Fridays off, I would think that they could put me in for a few hours to entertain, tutor or just read to them. Of course, the unit where they need people to cuddle premies is filled....

What a great use of time! I'm sure there are many in the hospital who would love the company!
