Day 42

My Pet Dragon

This is Pete. He's been Honeybun's and my pride and joy for almost 2 years now. We adopted him when he was almost a year old. A couple had bought him for their young son, who quickly grew bored of the bearded dragon. He stopped caring for him, and feeding him fell to the mother, who was scared of him and would simply toss a handful of rainbow-colored "Bearded Dragon Pellets" in his bowl each day.

When we adopted him, he was malnourished, dehydrated (they don't drink out of a dish - they drink while being soaked in a tub of warm water), constipated (passing is easier when they're soaked regularly), and terribly frightened. He was horrified to be touched and would turn his beard black and puff it as large as he could possibly muster. It's easy to tell when they're uncomfortable - It's quite a sight!

Now, he has a fresh salad every day, all the live crickets he could want, occasional blueberry treats, daily baths, and loves to ride on our shoulders and cuddle up for naps.

Honeybun took this picture while the mighty beast was taking a bath and searching for his lost bath snack. ;)

Bettedavis - We love him too. He has so much personality! Sometimes he gets sassy and puffs out his beard a bit when he is demanding extra crickets, or if he isn't ready to go back into his tank he'll try to climb up my arm and into my shirt to hide. Haha!

He is definitely a "Daddy's Boy" though. He'll try to scramble down my arm and jump over to Honeybun on a regular basis. I try not to be too jealous. Haha!
