Pain takes the day off.....
Pain and I woke up early together; I did a set of morning stretches recommended by a friend, popped some 8 hour extra strength acetaminophens, drank some coffee, ate some oatmeal and read a few pages of Pynchon.
Sometime between then and work, Pain slipped away. While the acetaminophens are strong, at best they kept Pain lurking in the background.
I worked all day, and afterwards went to an orientation about volunteering at the hospital where I was treated. I sat for about 2 hours, and when I got up, Pain was elsewhere.
I came home, fixed myself some dinner, watched Jeopardy on the couch. Got up a few times to refill my wine glass, but Pain seemed to have other plans than to torture me....
I get up from the couch after watching an episode of "Boardwalk Empire" (my former neighbor, Steve Buscemi, is in the starring role) and still Pain had not returned. Maybe it was hanging out at the hospital, where there were easier marks to hit.
We Jews have a demon called the dybbuk. In the Talmud, you can keep this demon away by sprinkling ashes around the floor of your bed.
I have no ashes; maybe Pain has gone elsewhere.
