Trying to get a decent night of sleep....

Yeah, this is a post about insomnia... bloody red eyes, yadda yadda yadda....

But it's not that kind of post.

We all get insomnia, don't we? Maybe it's the stress of work, the excitement of an upcoming event, it could be anything. Me? It's the end of another school year, my 35th in the profession.

So you would think I'd be sleeping well? I have no difficulty falling asleep at my usual time (around 11 pm.) The issue is "staying" asleep. I wake up, maybe 3, 4 or 5 am. I may feel uncomfortable (a warm room always wakes me...), or maybe it's a random noise outside my window (there's a highway outside my house, but it's usually calm at night....)

Or it's just insomnia. I make it through the day, napping at odd times, pumping myself with a shot of coffee in the afternoon.

I worry; I've had lots of good sleep in my life. I wonder, as I age, whether I'll ever sleep that soundly again. That blissful 8 - 10 hours where I just don't wake up. I miss it; I don't know if I've slept a full 8 hours in years, but then again, I don't keep track. I should.

    I know the feeling... I'm the same
    I got a fit bit, amazing it monitors your sleep, awake time, light sleep, deep sleep , good investment only as little as £20....

    I love my Fitbit... I’m always surprised that I sleep less than I think I do. All the little brief wake-ups really add up. Being able to see the stages of sleep is interesting too... a decent night sleep but still feel worn out usually means I’ve not gotten as much REM sleep that night.
