Day 57

Science vs spirituality

I’m a scientist, a realist. I like proof, data, numbers, logic. It’s part of why I’m an atheist.

My therapist is kind of the opposite. She’s very spiritual and believes in all kinds of stuff I don’t.

She believes in the concept of twin flame relationships. I did a little googling and it kind of ties in to the opposites-attract thing. Two people’s souls complement each other, filling in the gaps, strengths and weaknesses of the pair mesh to form a whole, that kind of thing. Not soulmates, but two halves of one soul. It sounds like crap but it kind of describes us.

There’s this website run by some woman who discusses the phenomenon of these relationships. I had looked at one point but it’s been a while so I peeked again.

There’s a weekly blog talking about universal energy influences (Mercury in retrograde and all that bullshit) and what it causes. It said something about the “veil of perception” being thin and to not be surprised to receive messages from your twin in the form of images and songs popping into your mind, and that dreams and “astral experiences” between you could be more common.

That dream. WTF?

How do you find a good therapist? Are they expensive

I got lucky. I got the list of covered providers in my area from my insurance and rolled the dice picking a woman close to my age. She work out very well for me.
I’d start by asking around for recommendations. If you’re not comfortable letting people know you’re thinking about therapy (though there’s nothing to be ashamed of, it takes strength to admit you need help) then you could do what I did. Google them, look for reviews, or just go with your gut. If after a couple of sessions you’re not feeling it then move on.
As for expense, that would depend on your insurance. I don’t know where you are but here in the US mental health coverage is rare.
