Is "Social Media" or Community more important to you?
Most humans want to be appreciated. It is validating and meaningful to hear that we've done something helpful or that we are appreciated for who we are. As human beings, we long for connection. We long for companionship. Our brains continue to develop past the age of 25. The craving for interpersonal interaction develops in young children fostered by all the love and affection we give them. We long for a community "It takes a village" that supports raising children. There is an evolutionary advantage to staying connected to those around you. We evolved to need each other. Our modern lifestyle and technology combined with unused metal power has focused our lack of each other. We need mental stimulus and like interacting with others. Every decision that you make in life is based on social stigma or stimulation that you had by society. We are bombarded by society every day with all our senses for 195,000 years or more that you have to reach for companionship. Those who do not "long" or somehow suppressing it for "deeper" meanings.
But, how does society continue to provide the much need human connection via internet based social media? I'm not convinced that it's helping.
