Day 251

Being A Housewife Suits Me

Now that I have gotten used to not working, I am really loathe to part with the lifestyle...

I get to do what I want every day, complete freedom. The flat is tidy. I find that without the stress and exhaustion from full time work I really don't mind housework! It all becomes so much more pleasant as there isn't that resentment between Mr P and I over who has done what chores. I have the time and energy to cook all our meals every day which means we eat much healthier and save a lot of money on not eating out. I get to exercise as much as I want! I can work on my creative projects.

On the other hand there is the small matter of money. But I find penny pinching has not been as much a burden as I would have thought. I have the time to hunt around for the best prices. And every time I have an urge to buy something frivolous I think to myself, do I want this more than I want to not work?

A friend the other day mentioned a private school post and asked if I was interested.

Pondering it most seriously...

20 years down the line and not earning your own money - penny pinching is the norm and guilt (for me) sets in whenever I need something that's not a necessity. The grass is always greener and whenever I think of work I do think of the freedom I'll give up - but I'd rather have the freedom to jump on a plane and have new experiences rather than the same groundhog day every day. x

I can relate to this so much. I had to take early retirement due to ill health a couple of years ago and the difference it made was astonishing. Even before I had worked my notice people were saying that I looked so much better! I was given just over a week to decide whether or not I wanted to accept the retirement package I was offered (with reduced pension of course) and as I swithered and dithered a dear friend said to me, "No matter what you earn you can't buy good health". It was the best advice I was ever given. I have had to penny pinch, but I have no regrets about taking the deal.
