Day 687

Pretty, pretty good after a 2 week break....

While most people who reach 60 are counting down the days to retirement, I'm the complete opposite: I've really worked up to a high level of craft in teaching, and I enjoy working with kids and teachers alike.

This profession has done a lot for me: I've learned so much about not only my subject (mathematics), but also how to relate to children, colleagues and parents, and how to distinguish between insignificant details and bigger picture items.

So even though I spent most of the day hobbling around with I-Lean (the name of my crutch), I had a really good time working with the kids, making sport with my colleagues, and even learning more about my subject.

And using I-Lean, as well as hanging out on my couch in the evening, has already helped me heal my foot. It ain't perfect, but it's a lot better than it was yesterday.... and that's all that's required, right: that things today are better than yesterday.

NewGal and I are going to see a live taping of Steven Colbert, with Larry David as his guest. This is the kind of thing you can do in NYC...

So it's pretty, pretty good, right?

I aspire to enjoy and appreciate a profession the way you do, RavDiablo! Teaching sounds like it's the perfect fit for you, and I'm sure you're absolutely wonderful with the kiddos. They can always sense whether a teacher loves their job or not, and it really affects the class environment. It's a little hard to love the Oil & Gas Private Equity field, because it's ALL about the money here. One day I hope I find my place as you have in a profession that brings more joy. Also, I-Lean is seriously the best name for a crutch! Gave me a real chuckle. :)
