T-1 Month To 60... It's not going all that well...
It's September 3rd; it's my last month in my 50s. On October 3rd, I will turn 60, and yes, I've heard that old schlock that "60 is the new 40," but let me tell you, it's bullshit...
I commented to a friend the other day that aging is not agreeing well with me. I think much of it has to do with the hormone treatments I'm taking for the cancer: I have hot flashes when I sleep at night, so I haven't had a decent night's sleep in a month. I also have pain in my joints, so moving takes a bit of work.
But I have to live with it: the hormone treatments go on until around Christmas, so it will be a present when I start to recover from all these side effects.
Today I return to school, my 35th. I'm excited to see my colleagues, meet the new crop of 4 and 5 year olds (they have that "new student smell" that I love so much), and just get back to the "all the work and days of hands" as T.S. Eliot wrote about.
And a month from now I'll turn 60; I'm still working on how to "celebrate."
